Racial and Ethnic Behavioral Health Disparities: Cultural Competence at the Organizational Level
Publication Date: 6/1/2007
Description:
This report is part of a set of reports produced by the Behavioral Health Disparities Project, a grant administered by the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) with funding provided by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). The impetus for the study was the lack of information on cultural competence in Florida's health care system. This lack of knowledge is not unique to Florida. It remains a matter of national concern that despite excellent and carefully crafted recommendations and standards created by agencies such as the U.S. Department of Health's Office of Minority Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, there has been little if any effort to address how procedures related to enhancing cultural competency might be implemented.
