Following are some key findings from this report, followed by recommendations for future research.

  • Adults and children enrolled in Medicaid experienced a meaningful number of involuntary exams.
  • Those enrolled in Medicaid for longer periods of time had more involuntary examinations than those enrolled in Medicaid for shorter periods of time.
  • Adults and children enrolled in Medicaid had a meaningful number of repeated involuntary examinations.
  • The interviews suggested several areas important to understanding repeated involuntary examinations.
  • The findings from this study are suggestive of the need for future research.
