Models of Care for Pain Management in Persons with or at-risk for Opioid Dependence
Publication Date: June 2014
Description:
The current study employed three methods to analyze the role of pain in the experience of persons who have or who develop chronic pain and become opioid dependent. Analyses in FY 13-14 focused on whether persons with chronic pain are identified and referred to substance abuse treatment or opiate treatment programs by the physicians who treat their pain and related illnesses. Analyses identified areas that need to be addressed to improve patient retention in care in the presence of ongoing pain management issues.
