The University of South Florida College of Public Health is an approved provider (BAP#433 – Exp. 3/31/07) of continuing education credits for clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, and mental health counseling. This program has been reviewed and approved for up to 7.8 contact hours for each event.

Nurses:
The University of South Florida College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is for 7.8 contact hours for each event.

Advanced Topics in Expert Testimony

 

About The Workshop          

Registration can be for Day 1, Day 2, or both.


I. The Evidence (Day 1 )

This advanced workshop focuses on applied aspects of forensic examination and testimony, affidavits and reports, and how they set the stage for the presentation of testimony. Topics include: legal foundations of expert examination; maximizing the value of informed consent/notification; risk management and avoiding malpractice and licensing complaints; forensic examination preparation; use of third-party information; communication with attorneys; presenting novel evidence and responding to evidentiary challenges; and conceptualizing examinations and reports that flow effectively into credible and persuasive expert testimony. This course may be taken together with Day 2 or may be taken by itself. The regular fee is $180, nonprofit rate is $160. There is a $25 fee for late registrations.


II. The Presentation (Day 2)

This advanced workshop focuses on presentation of testimony. Videotaped testimony of actual trials and role-playing by presenters and attendees are used. Topics include: presenting qualifications in court; testifying about affidavits and reports; structuring testimony; responding to cross-examination gambits; effective and persuasive communication on the stand; and maintaining objectivity and neutrality.This course may be taken together with Day 1 or may be taken by itself. The regular fee is $180, nonprofit rate is $160. There is a $25 fee for late registrations.
