This two-and-a-half hour session is designed for mental health professionals who interview children. Issues of children’s memory, suggestibility, and truthfulness have repeatedly been raised in the courtroom. Furthermore, within the forensic setting mental health evaluators of child sexual abuse have been discredited because of the method and structure of their evaluation. Workshop topics will include: developmental factors related to children’s memory and the design of interviews that will hold up under legal scrutiny. A training manual will be provided to participants.

Participants will Learn...

  • Ethical guidelines related to child sexual abuse evaluations
  • Skills that will increase the accuracy of children’s narration of remembered events
  • A legally defensible structure in interviewing the alleged sexually abused child

Who should attend...

All mental health professionals who evaluate children alleged to have been sexually abused.
