Child Maltreatment: Conducting Comprehensive Assessments for the Protection of Children and Providing Effective Treatment

Training Available Upon Request
To arrange for training or consultation at your agency, contact MHLPinfo@fmhi.usf.edu.

This one-day training program will be divided into two sections: evaluation and treatment. It is designed for mental health professionals interested in honing their forensic skills in the area of child maltreatment, and developing their treatment skills with chronically maltreated children. There is growing recognition that various forms of family violence may co-occur within families and that risk of maltreatment recurrence exponentially increases with each new event. Maltreatment is lethal for some of these children. Children living in violent or neglecting families endure prolonged stress and trauma. These circumstances may result in children’s impaired learning of how to regulate their critical biological systems. Workshop topics will include: assessment of maltreatment risk, placement issues, and clinical assessment and treatment techniques for working with children who have experienced multiple forms of family violence. A training manual will be provided to participants.

Participants will Learn...

  • How to use the empirical data to determine appropriate treatment recommendations and to write a forensic report for educating the legal system and the parties
