Solutions for Homelessness
Mark Engelhardt, M.S., A.C.S.W, Associate in Technical Assistance in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy participated in a panel of experts that discussed some of the root causes and possible long-term solutions for homelessness. According to some local homeless coalitions, there are up to 20,000 people in the Tampa Bay Area without a home throughout the course of the year. Most of these individuals do not fit the stereotype of "the chronic homeless." In fact, many are among the working poor and a growing number are families, or women with children.
Panel guests included:
State Representative Kevin Ambler of Lutz
Mark Engelhardt of the Florida Mental Health Institute at USF
Michael Stoops, Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, and
Dr. Brad Paul, Executive Director of the National Policy Council on Homelessness
Listen to the Florida Matters broadcast The Myths and Realities of Homelessness.
