Expanding Skills in Assessing Risk

One day training (6 hours)

The skill of assessing risk is an art and developing competency requires expanding your knowledge base and practice.  This is a highly interactive training designed to allow you to engage in practice activities related to a holistic approach to risk assessment. Content areas focus on the identified family dynamics and factors of risk that influence the potential of serious child maltreatment and/or potential child fatality. This training will allow you to evaluate and demonstrate, through active debate and presentation, your assessment skills in a setting most similar to that of every day application in the child welfare arena.  This training will also emphasize the targeted need for ongoing evaluation and diligent surveillance in high risk populations. After completing this training you will be better able to:

  • Articulate the risk factors associated with case assessment
  • Present cases, engage in debate, and support your positions of strength and need in regard to specific elements associated with any abuse and neglect case
  • Define specific critical thought questions in order to dig deeper into the required assessment process that leads to better decision making in child welfare
