Documentation: “If it’s not written, it didn’t happen!”
Half day training (3 hours)
Documentation is an essential tool and skill. It is a detailed record of the efforts you have made to protect a child and/or work with a family. It also serves as a legal document that can be used in court. In this training we will address the various elements required in child welfare for legally defensible writing skills. A focus will be on relevant, factual, quantitative and objective types of documentation. There will also be some concentration on the ability of the author to “connect the dots” when describing patterns of behavior, concerns and issues for court reports. By completing this training you will be able to:
- Describe the verbiage and language needed to write legally defensible documentation in child welfare
- Define the model for conceptualizing the elements to be included in all legal documentation
- Demonstrate the skill of clear, concise and descriptive documentation that allows for the provision of a synopsis of case facts
