Domestic Violence in the Lives of Children
One day training (6 hours)
This training examines the impact that domestic violence has in the lives of children. Children who live with domestic violence face numerous risks, such as exposure to traumatic events, neglect, sexual and physical abuse, and the risk of losing one or both of their parents. All of these can lead to negative outcomes for children and clearly have an impact on them. Research studies consistently have found the presence of long term behavioral, social, emotional and cognitive problems associated with exposure to domestic violence.
Through this training you will be better able to build supportive safety nets, provide timely referrals for counseling and stop the cycle of domestic violence. When you complete this training you will be able to:
- Identify specific risks children face that live with domestic violence
- Identify examples of the three categories of childhood problems associated with exposure to domestic violence
- Describe ways to build supportive safety nets and provide timely referrals that can effectively interrupt the cycle of violence
