The Sexually Victimized Child: Advanced Concepts

Half day training (3 hours)

This training will focus on the concepts and dynamics involved in cases of sexual abuse. If you work with families where sexual abuse has been identified as a primary maltreatment this training will take your knowledge and skills to the next level. Through this training you will explore the effects of sexual victimization on children and the possible resulting behaviors from this abuse. There will be focused discussion about the origins of those behaviors while addressing the subsequent recurring issues for children who have been the victims of molestation. You will also examine the distinctions between developmentally normative sexual behaviors and developmentally atypical sexual behaviors, such as excessively sexualized behaviors with peers or others. Participants that complete this training will be able to identify:

  • Normative vs. problematic and worrisome sexual behavior of children
  • Sexualized interactive behaviors between children and the levels of concern associated with those behaviors
  • The short and long term impact of victimization and how this manifests behaviorally for children as they grow into adulthood
