About
This workshop is appropriate for mental health professionals who must assess patients' risk for violence in acute (e.g., emergency rooms, outpatient offices) and longer-term (e.g., psychiatric hospitals) settings. After reviewing research regarding correlates of violence among persons with mental disorders, various risk assessment approaches are discussed and specific assessment tools are reviewed. Next, clinical assessment of patients is considered, using case studies. Legal and ethical challenges in such assessment contexts are also addressed.
